Yarn Shop Day 2018 on Saturday 12 May is set to be a wonderful celebration of the importance of bricks and mortar yarn stores to the knitting and crochet community.
Where would we be without our local yarn shops? Not only are they the places where crafters can explore the range of yarn available, compare brands and squish skeins, they are also a source of advice and workshops. They can be the heart of your knitting and crochet community hosting knitting groups or just as the place people bump into other crafters.
Yarn Shop Day organised by Let’s Knit and Let’s Get Crafting Knitting and Crochet magazines was founded in 2014. It is the biggest retailer event in the knitting and crochet sector and encourages yarn lovers to visit their local store and discover the great things it can offer, while at the same time enjoying a day of treats, fun and meeting like-minded crafters.
Stores are hosting a range of events from designer visits to free lessons or yarn tasters where you get the change to knit a couple of rows in a new yarn – plus many will be offering cake or other refreshments. In addition participating stores will have free copies of the patterns to make this year’s Yarn Shop Day mascots – Milo the Cat and Dixie the Llama.
You can find out what is happening in your area by visiting the Yarn Shop Day map.
