Have you ever knitted or crocheted your own Christmas decorations?
These can be great stash busting projects (which, let’s face it, we all need once in a while!) as a lot of decorations are small items so don’t take much yarn to make. The larger projects on this list still don’t require a lot of single colours so again they can be a good way to use up your small left over quantities. Follow the recommended colour schemes, or you can get creative by selecting a specific colour theme throughout all the decorations, just let your imagination run merrily wild!
We’ve picked out some free patterns to give you some inspiration:
Knitted wreaths are fun projects. We like King Cole’s Sleepy Santa Wreath Knitalong.
Making your own baubles and tree decorations are a lovely way to create an individual look for your Christmas tree.
The baubles above are from Sirdar.
And Stylecraft has about a dozen free patterns for different decorations on its website.
If you are looking for something more quirky, there is Rico’s unusual take on the 12 Days of Christmas.
The patterns for these characters are being added to Rico’s home page regularly.
This Christmas Carousel crochet pattern in Robin DK from The Home of Craft would be both a fun challenge and an interesting centre piece.
And finally, this knitted Santa in James C Brett Flutterby Chunky isn’t free but we really like the look of him.
