A few of you have been in touch lately to tell us that charity shops are turning away handknitted items because they cannot be sold in the stores.
We got in touch with Trading Standards to find out more.
Current law in the UK – which includes charity shops as well as other retailers – is that every garment sold, regardless of whether it is second hand or handmade, needs a label with fibre content and care instructions.
This means charity shops have a responsibility to be sure of that information for any garment they sell.
Due to this, we will be focusing our charity knitting and crochet news and efforts on charities and campaigns that give items to people or animals in need or use them to raise awareness.
