A knitted tank top or vest with jeans is the stylish look going into autumn according to the fashion mags – check out this piece about model Kendal Jenner from Harpers Bazaar (ignore the fact they can’t tell knitting from crochet).
You could start wearing tops like these by themselves and then add a tee underneath as it gets cooler.
Our members have some lovely examples among their patterns
This simple shape from Rico Design in Cotton Metallise (pattern 553) is easily adaptable as a summery top on its own or layered for Autumn. The yarn knits to a standard DK tension so you could substitute other yarns for your perfect top.
This free pattern option from Cygnet Yarn – using Silcaress DK – is less suited to layering over another garment but would look fab under a classic cardigan on cooler days. Definitely an option to dress up or dress down. Download the pattern at
A classic cable v-neck tank top from Stylecraft in the recycled ReCreate DK yarn. We can definitely see this one worn by itself with jeans – a versatile design.
This option in King Cole’s KC Collection Mulberry Soft DK yarn is a more autumnal option which could take you into winter.
And finally, how about a hooded tank top. This James C Brett cable pattern is great fun and we’re certainly tempted to try one.
