Express yourself with colour blocks

Who wants to have some fun with colour?

The colour block and asymmetric stripe trends are perfect for knitting given the wide range of yarn shades out there and because you can adapt sweaters and cardigans to add colour sections.

There are some great patterns out there – we’ve picked a few to inspire you – or you could find a simple sweater pattern and your favourite yarn from one of our members, and create your own.

You can go bright and asymmetric with Stylecraft’s cardigan pattern 10019 for Grace Aran.

Or more subtle tonal colour blocking like the Emilia Tunic in West Yorkshire Spinners The Croft.

Contrasting bands or sleeves are good ways to achieve colour block effects as with Cygnet’s Majestic Metallics Cardigan or the child’s hoodie, 6001, from King Cole.

James C Brett’s pattern 856 for a child’s dress makes good use of colour block sleeves and a striped hem.

Colour blocking isn’t just for garments – the extra wide stripes on this shawl in Rico Essentials Super Kid Mohair Loves Silk are very effective.
