Cast on some super-chunky style

Big knits are, well, big this winter.

From influencers and celebrities appearing in Hope Macaulay’s giant jumpers – handmade by knitters in Northern Ireland – to the fab knitwear sported by Claudia Winkleman on The Traitors, the bigger is clearly the better.

TV star Zara McDermott in a Hope Macaulay sweater and Claudia Winkleman shows her knitwear style.

Luckily knitters can get ahead of the trend with their own creations and in double quick time thanks to a great range of super chunky yarns on the market right now.

We’ve picked out some big knits from our members to inspire your look.

Patchwork knits have been high style since Harry Styles was seen in a JW Anderson cardigan. This one is in King Cole Big Value Super Chunky (pattern 6076).

Go bold in a simple shape like this Neon Pink sweater in Cygnet Seriously Chunky or choose a self striping yarn (top left) like Stylecraft Merry Go Round XL (pattern 9958).

Have fun with texture like the sleeves on the cardigan James C Brett Amazon (pattern 780) or the stocking stitch/garter stitch blocks of West Yorkshire Spinners’s Lux Sweater in ReTreat Super Chunky.

You can even go for giant lace – like the cardigan from Rico Knitting Ideas Compact using Creative Melange Big.

And the great news is even if you don’t usually knit adult jumpers, the big yarn and needle make these quick knits. But it you don’t fancy a sweater, why not go for a super chunky scarf like Claudia Winkleman – cast on the width you want, pick a stitch and enjoy.

And finally, a bonus idea. This poncho from the UKHKA pattern collection (no.253) is knitted in chunky rather than super chunky but it definitely fits with the big knit look.
