Classic Blue – the colour for 2020

Each year a panel at colour experts Pantone selects the colour of the year. The idea is the shade is something they expect to see in design this year which also embodies the mood of the time.

In recent years some of their colour choices have been a bit of a challenge to knitters and crocheters – for example 2019’s Living Coral or the brownish Marsala from 2015. However, this year they have come up with a shade that is likely to be very popular.

Classic Blue is very much what it says on the tin. A strong, mid range blue that is both calming and smart.

This is a shade that will be easy to work with in yarn-based crafting this year. And it is widely available in yarn shades as you can see from the examples we’ve pulled together. From chunky to sock yarn, solid shades to variegated and self-striping, there are classic blues to be found in a wide range of yarns.
